This very early variety is an old American heirloom, introduced in the 1840s. Forming pointed, dark green heads, its smooth sweet flavour is considered by many to make it one of the tastiest cabbages available. A favourite for coleslaw. The 2-4 lb, pale green, pointed heads have a delicious flavor, few outer leaves and can be planted close together. Resists yellows and splitting. This variety is a good choice for successional sowing. Approximately 60 days to maturity.

The first Early Jersey Wakefield cabbages were raised in 1840 by a man named Francis Brill of Jersey City, New Jersey. Thirty years later, seed companies all over the region offered this seed for sale; growers appreciated its early harvest and small, tender heads.
